The family history is a bit confusing here because Fannie became the wife of Henry Gatewood after his first wife, Fannie's sister Mary Howell Ethridge, died in 1924. MHE was the mother of Mary Walker and Frances (Pank) Gatewood, but she died when they were young children. Fannie moved to Holly Springs (where the Gatewood family lived), raised the two girls, and was known by all as "Sister Fannie".
Also interesting is that Mary Snow Ethridge Abbott (Ethridge-57, "Snowy", "Snowball") went to live in Holly Springs for a couple of years, where she finished high school. Thus at one point Fannie Ethridge acted as the mother of three children that were not her own.
Fannie Ethridge is buried in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
