James Evans, brother of William Evans, was born in Hampshire County, in 1832. On October 16, 1854 james obtained a marriage license. On October 26, 1854 at Horse Shoe Run, Tucker County, West Virginia he was married to Lucinda age 17 years, a daughter of William and Lyda Losh. During the 1860 census he was reported to be 28 years of age and was employed as farm labor. He was with his wife Lucinda and three children Evaline age 5, John W. age 3 and Mary J. 1 year old. They were residing in District two of Tucker County, West Virginia. By 1870 the Family had moved to Ash Grove of Iroquois County, Ohio. There were additions to the family with three more daughters being added Emaline age 8 years, Phoebe A. age 5 years and Letta age 3 years.
Children:
Evaline, John William, Mary Jane, Emaline, Phoebe Ann, Lettie, Maggie May, Nellie and Eddie.
He married a second time in 1877, to Sarah Carr, of Illinois.
In 1865 he went to Indiana and stayed 4 years; then went to Illinois and remained 13 years, and returned to West Virginia, where he follows the occupation of farming."
