Biography

European Aristocracy
George Evans was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

George Evans of Bulgaden Hall, County Limerick, Ist Baron Carbery, MP, was born about 1680 in Ireland. He was the son of the Right Honourable George Evans and Mary Eyre.

In 1704 he married Anne Stafford, daughter and eventual heiress of William Stafford of Blatherwick, County Northampton.

George Evans was the Member of Parliament (MP) for County Limerick between 1707 and 1713. He held the office of Govenor of Limerick Castle on 12th November 1714, and then was appointed Privy Counsellor for Ireland in 1715. Between 1715 and 1722, and again from 1724 to 1727, he was Member of Parliament for Westbury.[1]

He was created 1st Baron Carbery, of Carbery, County Cork [Ireland] on 9th May 1715, with special remainder to his father's male issue.

Lord Carbery passed away on 28th August 1749 at Caharas, County Limerick. His children were:

  • Hon. John Evans (-1758); married Grace Freke, daughter of Sir Ralph Freke, 1st Bt., in 1741.
  • George Evans MP, 2nd Baron Carbery (-1759); married Hon. Frances FitzWilliam, daughter of Richard FitzWilliam, 5th Viscount FitzWilliam of Merrion in 1732.
  • Hon. Anne Evans; married Major Charles du Terme in 1734.
