Harley was born in 1891. He was the son of Joseph Evans and Samantha Adams. He passed away in 1968.
Harley went to Hall Co., TX, with his family in 1906, where he lived until he entered the US Army in October, 1917. He served with the 36th Division, 144th Infantry in France.
Harley was gassed and shell-shocked in WWI and spent the rest of his life in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Big Spring, TX, except for the last 6 years when was in the Shady Oaks Rest Home in Abilene, TX. He never married or had any children.
On his WWI draft card, he listed himself as a farmer and preacher. He had attended Goodnight Baptist College in Goodnight, TX, before going into the service.
