Here, their test results are used to help verify that they descend from an ancestor: James C Richardson. </line><line>My approach is to find "DNA cousins" with family trees indicating that they descend from a brother or sister of the ancestor. (Occasionally, these family trees need to be extended using other resources.)  Where possible, Ancestry's "DNA Circles" and "Shared Matches" are used as checks. Confirmation is when DNA Circles exist for one or both of the ancestor's parents, and the DNA cousins are members. If this occurs, the cousins belonging to DNA Circles are marked with an "o" below. Confirmation is when shared matches show that the DNA cousins are inter-related. Though this generally only helps with recent ancestors. Shared matches are also compared against other DNA cousins, whose linkage was previously established to different ancestors of Patricia/Dan.
