Biography

"Edward Evans, parents unknown was born about 1736 in Sligo, Ireland. He married in 1769 to Sarah Flagg (1751-1831), dau of Ebenezer & Lucretia (Keys) Flagg of Chester, NH.[1]

Children:

  1. Josiah b 1770 in Chester married Mary Wells
  2. Richard married Lois Sargent, resided Plainfield and Hanover
  3. Mary married John Colby of Andover as his second wife, his first wife was Susannah, half sister of Daniel Webster
  4. Lucretia married Samuel Dyer of Andover
  5. Nancy married Samuel Pillsbury of Danbury
  6. Ebenezer b 1775 married 1st to Judith Wells, married 2nd to Betsey Brainerd
  7. Sally died in Salisbury, unmarried
  8. Betsey b 22 June 1789 married Stephen Piper of Sanborton, died 10 Oct 1856
  9. Susan b 24 Oct 1793 married Nathaniel P. Morrison
  10. Gardner married Lucy Danforth, died in Hill on 10 Mar 1865, 74 yrs old
  11. Edward b 15 May 1795 married Phebe Morrison
  12. John died unmarried at 29 yrs old

"Edward Evans was a noted schoolmaster in Salisbury, a taxpayer in Salisbury in 1775, adjutant of Colonel Stickney's regiment at Bennington and served till close of war. Later in life he moved to Andover, near his son Josiah, where he died 26 May 1818, aged eighty-two. [p 193]

Edward Evans of Salisbury who served in Capt Abbott's company, Col Stark's regiment in 1775 and was adjutant in Col Stickney's regiment in 1777. This second Edward Evans died in Andover 16 May 1818.[2]
