Ellen Gertrude Evans was born in 1893 in Abbotsford, via Picton, in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales (Australia). Gertrude, as she was known, was the youngest daughter of Thomas Evans and Elizabeth Cunningham. [1]
Gertrude married Jack Hickey in 1915 in nearby Picton. [2] After initially living in Cootamundra, on New South Wales' Southern Slopes, the couple settled in Tumut, the 'gateway' to New South Wales' Snowy Mountains, raising their son, Norman, and daughter, Joy.
Aged about 69 years, Gertrude passed away in 1962 in Tumut. [3] She was survived by Jack, who passed eight years later aged 91 years.
