1900 U. S. Census: May Evans, age 5, lived in Oxford Town, Newton County, Georgia, with parents Walter, 29, and Eenjen (sic), 30, and siblings Lissi, 7; and Troy, 6. All family members born in Georgia. Walter was a farmer. Walter and Geneva read, wrote & spoke English. They rented their farm.[3]
1910 U. S. Census: Mary (Mae) Evans, age 14, lived in Beersheba, Henry County, Georgia, with parents Walter, 41, and Geneaver (sic), 40, and siblings Lissie, 18; Troy, 16; Corbett, 10; Rosella, 6; and Willis, 2. Alma & Fred not mentioned, deceased. Walter was a farmer, rented his farm. Parents had been married 20 years, had 8 children, 6 still living. Family spoke, read and wrote English, Corbett and Rosella attended school. Lissie, Troy, and Mae worked as farm laborers on the home farm. [4]
1940 U.S. Census: Mae Bartlett, age 44, lived in Militia District 486 Sixth, Henry County, Georgia, with husband, Raymond, age 52. They rented their home for $4 per month. Mae had completed 6th grade; Raymond had completed 8th grade. Both born in Georgia. In 1935 they lived in a rural area of Henry County, Georgia. Raymond was a farmer, worked 40 hours the week of March 24-30, and worked 52 weeks in 1939. He was a veteran. [5]
