Biography

A family story states that Edward and Ann Evans' son John left Montgomeryshire for South Wales due to the Chartist riots (the family was living in the community at the time - April 1839). More likely, as a boot and shoe maker, John Evans was drawn to the economic opportunities afforded by the booming coal fields of South Wales. Edward Evans and his wife Ann were living at 'Heol y bont hi(e, r, v)' in the parish of Llanidloes, at the time of their children's births. Edward was a labourer.
