Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
I believe Mercy (Evans) Todd (1717-1804) is the same person as this Mary Evans. I have found many connections between the Evan's of Northfield Mass and the Todd's of Waterbury Connecticut outlined below. I have also searched Connecticut and Massachusetts records for other possible explanations and can find no other candidates for Samuel Todd's wife. The marriage record for Mercy Evans and Samuel Todd in Connecticut clearly states that Mercy Evans is the daughter of Peter Evans of Northfield and there are clear connections between the families despite the distance. The only evidence we have that Mary is not Samuel Todd's wife is the statement in the History of Deerfield that Mary Evans died young, but there is no death record in Deerfield or Northfield
The Evans' of Northfield Massachusetts and the Todd's of Waterbury Connecticut have close ties. Both families feature Puritan Ministers which might explain how they became connected. Peter Evan's Son John Evans marries the daughter of Lydia Todd and Rev. Benjamin Doolittle. Lydia Todd is the elder sister of Rev. Samuel Todd who marries Mercy Evans of Northfield. Mercy is almost certainly the daughter of Peter Evans.[Connecticut: Vital Records (The Barbour Collection), 1630-1870 (Online Database: AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2011.) From original typescripts, Lucius Barnes Barbour Collection, 1928. https://www.americanancestors.org/DB414/i/13115/98/234259763] Moses Evans married Chloe Doolittle, also Lydia Todd's daughter. Randall Evans marries a Phebe and moves to Waterbury Connecticut the home of the Todd's.
