Biography
Nina Corry was born on 30 October 1903[1] at Ōamaru, Otago, New Zealand, and her birth was registered in the last quarter of 1903 at Ōamaru[2]. She was the first daughter of Savage Corry Evans and Jane Ann Healey.
When her father divorced her mother, she had to live with her father[3]. But by 1925 she was living at 1 Maori Hill with her mother Jane Ann, both being listed on the Timaru General Roll[4].
She emigrated from New Zealand to England in the early 1930s.
Nina married Walter Briggs, a widower aged 65, on 16 July 1934 in Christ Church, Down Street, Mayfair, London[5]. He was a gentleman living at Linden Hall, Borwick, Lancashire, and she was living at 4 Park Street, London (the residence of Lady Knowles). They appear not to have had children.
Walter died on 29 October 1938 at Linden Hall, Borwick near Carnforth, Lancashire[6].
In 1939 she was living at Linden Hall, Lunesdale, Lancashire with her father Savage Evans (born 1878) and sister Kathleen Evans (born 1906)[7]. She was a widow doing unpaid domestic duties born on 31 Oct 1903.
Nina married for the second time to Robert Workman in 1949[8].
Nina died on 22 March 1981 at 14 Harnet Street, Sandwich, Kent[9], and her death was registered in the first quarter of 1981 at Dover, kent[10] at Dover, Kent. Her probate was granted at Brighton on 9 June 1981[9]. Her estate was valued at £44,127.
Research Notes
The date of her birth on the BDM Online index is 30 October, but other records give it as 31 October. Maybe the date was given incorrectly on registration or the date she was told was wrong.
Note that The Peerage[11] has wrong information about her mother who is, of course, the first wife of her father, not his third wife.
