Samuel Evans was born about 1845-46, the exact date not yet found. Some records say he was born in Ireland but that seems very unlikely. His parents were both of Irish origin but they married in Walpole Township, Haldimand County, Ontario. Almost certainly, that is where Samuel was born. He later moved to Bruce County, where he settled in Saugeen Township.
Samuel married Martha Smith, widow of John Clazie, on 10 Nov 1880 at the town of Paisley, in Saugeen Township. The official record published in the Ontario Gazette shows:
"Samuel EVANS, 35, yeoman, Ireland, Saugeen, son of John EVANS & Mary Jane PATTERSON, married Martha CLAZIE, 36, widow, Ireland, Saugeen, daughter of John SMITH & Bella GRANT, witnesses: Joseph SHEEPY of Elderslie & Mary STRAITH of Paisley, 10 Nov 1880 at Paisley."
The 1881 Canada census, at Saugeen Township, showed Samuel Evans, 36, born 1845 in Ireland, married, farmer, Presbyterian. Living with him were his wife "Marthay Evans", 38; Sarah J. Evans, 30 (perhaps his sister?); and three Clazie children of his wife's first marriage. Although the census says Samuel was born in Ireland, that now seems unlikely.
Samuel Evans died on June 1st, 1899 at Saugeen Township, Ontario.
