George Evans was born in Cawsand, Cornwall, England about 1789 [1][2] & baptised at Rame by Plymouth, Cornwall, England on 5th April 1789,[1][2] the son of John Evans & Susanna Matthews.
George Evans was a mariner and served on H. M. Revenue Cutter Wolf. In March 1817, aged 28, after 16 years of service at sea, he was paid off from the Wolf, and transferred to the Preventive Boat Service. He rose to the rank of Chief Boatman in the Coastguard Service in his 60s.[3]
George Evans, Mariner & Hannah Mason, Spinster, both of the Parish of Hinderwell, were married in the Parish Church of Hinderwell, Yorkshire North Riding, England on 28th October 1817 by Banns with Consent of Parties by Edw'd Lewis Benwell. George signed his name, Hannah made her mark. Witnesses were John Peacock & Matthew Rudsdale.[4][5]
George Evans died age 67, on 9th July 1857 [6][7] in Hartlepool, Durham, England & was laid to rest at the Hartlepool Old Cemetery, Hartlepool, Durham, England.[8]
