George Everhart has German Roots.

Married Eve Elizabeth Zacharias (daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Hauck Zacharias), 12 Feb 1769. They were members of the German Reformed Church.

There is a very long article on this family in Genealogical and Biographical Record on pages 586-588.

George learned the carpentry trade and worked five years in Baltimore City, but after the death of his father, he returned to Manchester to the farm. The buildings his father had built had become dilapidated, so he covered them with boards. A number of years later he built a two-story addition, and in 1820 he added a one-story stone kitchen.

He also built a large Swiss barn of logs with a thatched roof. As his farm grew he added on to the building. A number of walnut trees stood at the top a hill in rear of the barn. They protected the barn from lightening strikes. The old barn was torn down in 1854 and a new one erected.

There were also large deposits of rich iron ore on the property. A portion of which he sold for $25,000.

George was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Maryland Militia (4 Dec 1770).

After the Revolutionary War, George became very active in the Whig party. However, he never held political office because his educational training was in German, and all public business was in English

Died 13 April 1835 (89 years). He and his wife are buried at Bowers Church, in the "valley", a few miles from their plantation. Burial at Bachman Valley, Marybland. [1]

A copy of which was obtained by Linda Ford and forwarded in an email, 12 Nov 2016. [This appears to be a false lead found in search of Peter Everett, born c.1797, in the USA, of German ancestry.]
