Biography

• William John Ewing was born in 1878 at Creggan, Duneane, where his mother's family lived. He was the son of Samuel Ewing and Elizabeth McFadden^[1].
• In the 1901 Ireland census William J Ewing was age 23, a carpenter, living at Cliftonpark Avenue, Clifton, Belfast with his parent Samuel Ewing (45), a builder, Elizabeth Ewing (41) and siblings Catherine J F Ewing (21), Samuel Ewing (19), a bricklayer, Lily Ewing (16), Sarah Ewing (14), Robert W Ewing (11), Norman J Ewing (7) and Charles A Ewing (5). Also Jane H Dornan (18), domestic servant^[2].
• William John Ewing, a builder from Belfast married Elizabeth Florence Kelso of Lenaderg, County Down on 14 August 1907, at Tullylish Presbyterian Church, Tullylish, County Down^[3]. William John's brother Samuel Hill Ewing and Elizabeth's sister Minnie calvert Kelso were witnesses to the marriage.
• William John and Elizabeth Florence Ewing had at least one daughter, Anna Elizabeth Ewing, in 1911.
• In the 1911 Ireland census William J Ewing was age 33, a house builder, living at Kelvin Parade, Clifton, Belfast with his wife Florence Ewing (32) and her relative (probably her brother) William Alex Kelso (22), working in a flax spinning factory^[4].
• William John's father Samuel Ewing died in 1926 age 70, and William John Ewing was one of the executors of his will.
