Biography

Felix Gundry Ewing is believed to be the son of William Ewing and Margaret Love Ewing. [1] He was born September 2, 1800[2] in Tennessee, USA[3]

Felix Ewing and Rachael L. C. M. McCrory received a marriage license on September 1, 1824 in Williamson County, Texas. They were married by William Hume on September 2, 1824. [4]

In the 1840 U. S. Census [5] the family was in Marshall County, Tennessee. Felix and Rachel were both listed in the 30 to 39 age group. They had one son and two daughters between 10 and 14 years old. One person was listed in the Persons Employed in Learned Professional Engineers which would be Felix. Felix has been seen listed as "MD". There were six slaves: 2 between 20 and 42 and 3 under 20. One colored person was listed as blind.

In the 1850 U. S. Census (20 November 1850) [6] the family was in Williamson County, Tennessee. Felix was a forty-nine year old farmer and Rachel was forty-four. Two sons were in the household. William T. Ewing was a twenty years old farmer. Andrew was five years old. Rachel's brother was also listed with the household. William McCrory was a forty-six years old farmer with real estate valued at $4500.

In the agriculture schedule of 1850, Felix owned 130 acres in Williamson County that was valued at $3900. He raised wheat, Indian Corn, Irish Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Wool, Peas and Beans valued at $156. He had livestock valued at $354. [7]

In the 1860 U. S. Census (12 July 1860) [8] Felix was fifty-nine years old and had a personal estate valued at $8200. Rachel S. S. C. Ewing was fifty-four years old. Andrew, age fifteen, was the only child left in the household. William McCrory, age fifty-eight was still in the household.

Felix is not listed in the 1870 U. S. Census. He was listed as being buried in the Municipal Cemetery, located in Franklin, Williamson County at Fourth Avenue and North Margin Street. Rachel is also buried there. [9]
