Herschel Vernon "Smokey" Ewing Jr. was born 17 March 1919 in Proctor, Comanche Co., Texas to Herschel Ewing and Jewell (Burleson) Ewing.

He married Kathryn Mildred Grater on 9 February 1942 in Florida.^[1]

Smokey passed away on 21 August 1981 in California and was buried at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Riverside County, California.^[2]
