Born at Berkeley, Glos, England. Baptised 11 June 1835. Left an orphan when a baby. (Adopted by Sturge family?) Married at Ballarat, Australia. Their children were all born in Ballarat. Said to have been Mayor of Ballarat. Business was supplying pit props to the gold mines. Said to be a Quaker. His son Percy was believed to be on the board of Friends Provident, originally a Quaker company.
