Daniel Eyster is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A038157.

Captain Daniel Eyster was born on 18 Aug 1743, in Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Hans Jerg and Catherine (Arendts) Eyster. Daniel was a Lt in the Pennsylvania Militia during the Revolutionary War. Later, he was promoted to Captain of the Third Battalion, York County, Pennsylvania Militia. This Battalion took part in the Battle of Germantown and other engagements during that year. Daniel Eyster married Elizabeth Reiff in 1770, in his home state of Pennsylvania. Daniel passed away on 14 Sep 1798, in Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania, United States. He was laid to rest at the St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, in Hanover, PA.

1. NSDAR Patriot Ancestor #A038157, Militia Company from Heidelberg Township, York Co PA. 2. I found no payrolls, muster lists or other records. A surviving list of troops, dated 7 Jan 1778, is in George R. Prowell, Continental Congress at York, Pennsylvania, and York County in the Revolution, 1907, is at Internet Archives at http://www.archive.org/stream/continentalcongr00prow/continentalcongr00prow_djvu.txt and other sites, with Daniel Eyster clearly marked Captain. So why did DAR tell J E Caldwell to send me a bar with "Lt. Daniel Eyster"? From Findagrave.com, 6 Nov 2010:

Hello Kathy

I just wrote a note to FAG, concerning this cemetery. It reads: " St. Matthew's Lutheran Church no longer has a cemetery. The first one was "rearranged", so that a new addition could be built onto church. The second one was completely dismantled, so a new building could be constructed on the site. The third one was left intact, except for the removal of all headstones. The site was then made to look like a lawn/park. There is a common grave site, located in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. I have never found it, so I don't know how detailed the inscription is. The employees of the cemetery don't know its location either."

Regards, Joyce Strong, FAG volunteer
