Giovanni Antonio Facchinetti was born on 20 July 1519 in Bologna, Papal States to Antonio Faccinetti and Francesca Cini. He died 30 December 1591 in Rome, Papal States.

He was ordained a priest on 11 March 1544 and consecrated a bishop in 1560. He was created a cardinal on 12 December 1583 by Pope Gregory XIII. [1]
