Biography of Clara Ann Fagan Edelblute

Clara Ann Fagan was born on October 18, 1855, in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of J. A. Fagan and Mary Mills. [1] Clara was the second child born out of nine children. These are her siblings: William Cletus ( 1854-1935), Jermia Herman (1858-1936), Frances Hobart (1859-1938), Charles Alfred (1860-1870), Josephine A. (1862-1908), Andrew Chrystom (1867-?), Raymond Jeremiah (1869-1883). [2] According to the 1860 US Census, Clara and her family were living in Ebensburg, Cambria County, PA. Clara was four years old. [3]

She married William M. Edelblute in August 1876. [4]. In the 1880 US Census, she is living with her husband and his mother. William is working in a tannery and Clara is keeping house. There are no children listed in this census. [5]

In the 1900 Census, we find that William and Clara have moved to 526 Talbot Avenue in Braddock Ward 2, Allegheny, PA. Their two children are living there as well. They are Ermina, age 17, and Earl George, age 16. Also living with them is John Edulblute, William's brother. [6] They lived near Clara's family there because Josephine "Gussie" Fagan and her husband Thomas Lynch lived next door at 534 Talbot. Gussie is Clara's sister. Also living in Braddock was Clara's brother Frank H. Fagan and his wife and family. They lived on Corey Avenue in Ward 3. [7]

In 1920, we find that William and Clara have moved to Longmont Ward 2, Boulder, Colorado and are living on Pratt Street. Also living with them are two grandchildren: Ollen Linsenmayer, age 14 and Cletus Linsenmayer, age 13. These would be children of Erma and her first husband Edwin. [8]In 1920 Clara's husband William is working as a stationary engineer. [9]

In 1921, they are living at 601 Coffman Street in Boulder. [10] William died on May 12, 1924 and is buried in Longmont, Boulder County, Colorado. [11]

In the 1930 US Census, Clara is alone and an inmate in the Colorado State Hospital for the Insane. Does that mean she was insane? In 1930, Clara was 75 years old and a widow. Perhaps she was depressed and sad? Maybe she was suffering from dementia.

In 1937, her daughter wrote a letter to my grandfather, her cousin: Roy Fagan . In the letter she said that her mother died in 1930, but her memorial on Find a Grave says that she died on June 5, 1931, at the age of 76y 7m 20d. She is buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado. [12][13]
