Biography

James was born in 1863. James was the child of John Fair and Malinda O'Brien. Married Elizabeth McIndoe, June 19, 1901. James passed away in 1952.

article in Maryfield history book - Across Borders and Valleys published 1984 FAIR, James Henry and Elizabeth (McIndoe) James H. Fair was born Apr 30, 1863 at Camlachie, Ontario. He came west and took up his homestead on SW 36-9-30 on Apr 5, 1892. He received the patent on Oct 30, 1895. He later left this place and moved to SE 2-9-30 which he bought from Jack Heron. He built a house, a story and a half, about 20' x 28' with an annex 16' x 20' in 1901. On June 19, 1901 he married Elizabeth McKerrow McIndoe of McNaught and took his bride to live int he new house. Six years later he sold his land to Emilie and Walter Long and moved back to NW 36-9-30 where they build a new house, barn and machine shed. In 1917 James and Elizabeth moved to Maryfield and bought SE 8-10-30 from Alexander Montgomery. As there was no house on this land, he bought a house in town from Harry Fowler--Block 13, lot 9. In 1923 Jim build a house on the farm where they lived until 1942, when they moved back to their house in Maryfield where they resided until his death on Feb 2, 1952. Elizabeth Fair went to Winnipeg where she lived until her death Jan 13, 1956. They had a four of a family, Marian Ferguson (Mrs. Chas Stewart), Ada (Mrs. Bill Foster), John Edward, and Margaret Montgomery (Mrs. Cliff Cook).
