Name

Name: David /Fairbairn/ [2]

Birth

Date: 16 MAR 1822
Place: Hawkesbury, Prescott Co., Ontario, Canada[3][4][5][6]

Death

Death:
Date: 06 AUG 1894
Place: Hawkesbury, Prescott Co., Ontario, Canada[7][8][9][10]

Residence

Residence:
Date: AFT 1845
Place: Hawkesbury, Prescott Co., Ontario, Canada
Note: "My earliest memories are of two homes, one on the main street which ran parallel to the Ottawa River for a mile and a half. The other was on the Snigh, as the Island was called. There were several small islands joined together by bridges to the French part. The lumber mill was on the Snigh and also the offices, the company store and the homes of the management. My Grandfather Fairbairn lived in one of these homes. It was a large house built of solid planks laid flat on each other making the walls about a foot thick."[11]

Marriage

Husband: David Fairbairn
Wife: Charity Walker
Child: David Fairbairn
Marriage:
Date: 29 AUG 1845
Place: Chatham, Ottawa River, Ontario, Canada
Note: Entry reads: Marriage - David Fairbairn and Charity Walker having been regularly proclaimed and no objections offered were married by me at Chatham Ottawa River Canada West on this the twenty ninth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Five; William Mair Minister of Grenville & Chatham Wit: George Laigth and Tho Higginson
NB family records seem to say 24th Aug[12][13][14][15][16]

Census

Date: 1842
Place: Grenville, Quebec, Canada
Note: David FAIRBURN (sic) (Head assumed, and also assumed to be the one married to Prudential ARNOLD, with Mum Jane nee WILLIAMSON along for the ride, father John or David absent) ,
Total number of inmates, 7;
Natives of Ireland, 1 (assumed to be Jane);
Natives of Canada, British Origin, 5 male FAIRBAIRNs;
Single males above 5 under 14: 2 (James 12, John 10 assumed)
Single males 14, under 18: 2 (William 17 and Robert 15 assumed)
Married males 18, under 21: 1 (David, 20 assumed)
Married females 14, under 45: 2 (Prudential, Jane 47 assumed)
Children between 5 and 16: 3 (Robert 15, James 12, John 10 assumed)
Initially, this conflicted slightly with known information, namely the 1845 marriage date given by Doug B from family records for David and Charity. Given that there are no names other than the head, identification is tentative, and also this is Quebec, when I (Lorna) thought they were all still in Ontario at this time. Ross has searched all the 1842 Census, Quebec and Ontario more than once and says: The David Fairburn, Grenville, Quebec record is the only one that could be Jane with some of her sons. I (Ross) have wondered for sometime if David (Charity) had an ealier wife who died without children...
(which I (Lorna) believe I have confirmed by finding the marriage to Prudential ARNOLD, and makes the data less conflicting)[17][18][19][20]
Date: 1861
Place: Hawkesbury, Prescott Co., Ontario, Canada

Husband: David Fairbairn

Marriage:

Place: Grenville, Ottawa Co, Quebec, Canada
Note: entry reads: David Fairbairn and Prudential Arnold having been regularly proclaimed and no objections offered were married by me at Grenville, Ottawa Canada on this sixth day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and forty one. William Mair Minister Grenville & Chatham; Wit: John Blair and John Topland[26]
Husband: John Fairbairn
Wife: Jane Williamson
Child: David Fairbairn
Child: John Fairbairn
Note: A tree Bart copied from the Wellington Cty archives shows Jane, mother of Archibald, David (mar. Charity), James, William, Agnes and John, as Jane WILLIAMSON and marrying 1816 to John FAIRBAIRN, s/o John F and Elizabeth YULE. This John actually married Julian BOAK and stayed in Scotland.[27]
Marriage:
Date: EST 1818
Place:  ?Quebec, Canada
Note: Was Jane married to John or David?
The links between Jane and John are in the Wellington Co, ONT FAIRBAIRN family file, which has a number of errors, but presumably stronger in what is getting to living memory for presumed descendant Norah Carlow.
Evidence places Jane with all of the sons, either by proximity or on the same census, except David whose only appearance is as the likely informant for her death. The only real "proof" of David's name is that Doug Brown's family records show that David that mar. Charity was David II in the history he inherited.
For now however, given Agnes is highly likely to be a dtr of Jane (living next door in 1851 and Jane living with them in 1871), the naming pattern of Alex and Agnes' family indicates Agnes' parents may be a John and Jane.[28][29][30][31][32][33][34]
Census:
Date: 1829
Place: Grenville, Quebec, Canada
Note: John FAIRBURN, non proprietor, close to David WILLIAMSON (prob. his father-in-law) - hsehold:

male 5 to 14 ......... 2 (?Archibald and David?)
female under 14 ....... 2 (Ella and Agnes?)
married male 30 to 60 .. 1 (John)
married female over 14....1 (Jane)
number in household ..... 7[35]
