MARRIAGE (1). 27 Oct 1937, Patricia Carnegie, daughter of Walter Howard Carnegie & Ada (Edgerton) Carnegie
WEDDING (1) REPORT. MRS. GEORGE ANTHONY FAIRBAIRN (Miss Patricia Carnegie) chose an all-white scheme for her Wedding in Holy Trinity Church, Kew (V.). IT was in radiant sunshine that Patricia, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Howard Carnegie, of Kinnaird, Melbourne, entered Holy Trinity Church, Kew (V.), for her marriage on October 27 to Mr. George Anthony Fairbairn, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Clive Fairbairn, of Woomargama, Albury (N.S.W.). Crowds assembled to await the arrival of the fair-haired bride and her eight bridesmaids, and as she entered the flower-decked church she looked like a vision of spring in her porcelain white satin robe with a tulle veil drifting down from a Russian diadem.
THE exquisite satin had been woven for the Paris Exposition and was "made-up" in Melbourne—the embroidery on the Court train being of incredible loveliness. Each tiny pearl in the wide border had been stitched on by hand, and on this border of pearl-strewn satin were applique flowers and leaves in dim-surfaced silk; each flower having a "centre" of larger pearls simulating the "heart" of a rose. The bride's only ornament was a magnificent diamond pendant brooch—which was an heirloom in the bridegroom's family. Her bridal crown was of diamente and orange buds, while in place of a formal bouquet she carried three giant white orchids with golden centres.
THE bridesmaids — Misses Elizabeth Darling, Mora Balmain, Janet Moran, Margaret Raws, Joan Watt, Shirley Tolhurst, Judith Lawry, and Rosemary Lyon — wore frocks of white organza with a spider's web tracery in gold thread. White daisies were set in their hair and they carried posies of the same Victorian flowers. Mr. John Poolman was best man. After the service, which was performed by Archdeacon Birch, the bride's parents entertained over 200 guests at a reception at Kinnaird, where wedding breakfast was laid in a rose-lined marquee with floodlights concealed in the flower-wreathed standards which supported the roof.
WEDDING (1) PHOTOGRAPHS. Bridesmaids, at the wedding of Miss Patricia Carnegie and Mr. Anthony Fairbairn, at Kew yesterday afternoon, made a charming study with their posies after the ceremony. The picture below shows the bride and bridegroom leaving Holy Trinity Church, Kew.
