Research Note

Indications are that Martha Fairbank(s) had a first husband, Oliver Death with whom she may have had three children, Oliver, Caleb (died young), and John. With second husband, it appears she had three children as well, Deborah, Caleb (named in honor of half-brother who passed, became a Capt.), and Lydia. The Ancestry of Robert Roy shows Crane, Ellery Bicknell, Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Worcester County, Massachusetts. New York: The Lewis Publishing Co., 1907, as their source for this information. Upon checking this source, I have found one instance of the name Martha Fairbanks, of Sherborn, Massachusetts, in Volume 4, page 188:

Of Martha Fairbanks, the following is said: "Benjamin Mason, son of Joseph Mason was born at Watertown, Massachusetts. July 14 1717.He married, September 28, 1741, Martha Fairbanks, of Sherborn, Massachusetts, where he resided for a time."

That may indicate a third husband, as one WikiTree contributor suggested . But, much more likely, that Martha was the daughter born Aug. 2, 1724 to Eleazer Fairbank Jr. and his wife Martha Bullard. That Martha Fairbank(s) was 17 in September 1741, when a Martha Fairbanks is recorded in Sherborn vital records as having married (24-year-old) Benjamin in Watertown. Their first child Bette was born on Jan. 15, 1741/2, just three months after their marriage. Seventeen was early for a marriage in those times, but it is not difficult to see why this marriage occurred when it did.

Fairbanks-298 and Fairbanks-176 appear to represent the same person because: Profile -298 is incomplete, but the name is the same as in -176 and so is the first husband Oliver Death, now that -176 has been updated to include that fact. These are the same person and should be merged to avoid duplicate profiles.
