Biography

Samuel Fairchild, son of Alexander Fairchild (abt.1680-1727) and Deborah (Jackson) Fairchild (1678-1753) was born in Stratford, Fairfield, Connecticut, probably 1719-1721.[1]

Samuel married Hannah Winchell and they had 11 children.[2]

Research Note

According to Early Fairchilds in North America and their Descendants, Samuel is the son of Alexander Fairchild (abt.1680-1727) and Deborah (Jackson) Fairchild (1678-1753) , but has erroneously been given as the son of Caleb Fairchild (1693-bef.1777) and Anne (Sherwood) Fairchild (1691-1777). The author states "Not until Donald Lines Jacobus did Fairchild research on the Fairfield county land records, was it known that Samuel and Abraham were sons of Alexander. Several authors have erroneously given Samuel as a son of Caleb, who was brother of Zechariah...who also went to New Jersey. Fairfield county, Ct. deeds prove these two men are sons of Alexander." DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:

My citation of Samuel Fairchild is sourced from "Fairchild Genealogy" by Mr.'s W.M. Plume (Sr & Jr), 43 Lawrence Avenue, West Orange, NJ. The book is archived with FamilySearch Books. I am not able to find Mr. Plume's book for additional sourcing. My extract reflects Samuel had 2 wives; Anne Sherwood Fairchild and Hannah Winchell (sp) Fairchild. The children from these 2 marriages were Benjamin, Hezekiah, Abigail, Moses, Martha, Abraham, Eunice, Solomon, Lieutenant, Isaac and Lucy. My family participated in the book's development by documenting our branch's information and received Mr. Plume's introduction to the ebook and our genealogy, hand typed by Mr. Plume Jr. or his son who served as his secretary. More talented eyes than mine need to review this, before merging.

There is an online copy of Mr. W.M. Plume's "Fairchild Genealogy" at this link:

https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/viewer/456968#page=1&viewer=picture&o=&n=0&q=

Page 237 states that Anne Sherwood first married Joseph Trowbridge and after his death married Caleb Fairchild, not that she married Samuel Fairchild (4192). The only wife given for Samuel Fairchild is Hannah Winchell (page 237). The book lists Samuel as a child of Caleb and Anne, but there is no birth date or supporting evidence. Mr. Plume's research preceded the research done by Jean Fairchild Gilmore. Her work, with supporting evidence, (see Research Note on profile Samuel Fairchild (abt.1721-1777) ), indicates that Samuel has erroneously been given as the son of Caleb and Anne Fairchild and that he is instead the son of Alexander and Deborah (Jackson) Fairchild.

Fairchild-274 and Fairchild-192 do not represent the same person because: Thank you for contacting me. I am traveling and don’t have access to my primary docs. However, I do not believe these are the same person. I will contact you on or after May 1, 2022.

Do you have sources that show Caleb and Anne Fairchild had a son named Samuel? I am not sure why the merge has been rejected. As stated in the Research Note above, this Samuel has erroneously been given as the son of Caleb and Anne. He is the son of Alexander and Deborah and he married Hannah Winchell. I see no evidence that there was a different Samuel Fairchild (1726-1778) who married Hannah Winchell.
Fairchild-274 and Fairchild-192 appear to represent the same person because: See Research note on Samuel Fairchild (abt.1721-1777). The correct parents are Alexander and Deborah.
Fairchild-274 and Fairchild-1162 appear to represent the same person because: same person

I just saw this notation and agree a merge needs to be completed. There is also a request to merge Fairchild-1519 which also appears to be one in the same.
