Asahel "Asa" Fairchild, son of Isaac and Lucy (Kilbourne) Fairchild, was born about 1800 on his father’s farm in Mt Pleasant, Brant, Canada West. Asahel was sometimes referred to as Asabel.
Asahel married a local girl, Elizabeth Westbrook, about 1821 in Canada West. Asa and Elizabeth had seven children: Isabel (who died young), James Kilbourne, Jane, Hiram Westbrooke, Susan, Mary Jane, and Joseph. Eunice died in Aug 1836, aged about 41.
Asahel next married Eunice Matthew on Dec 25, 1837 in Oakland, Brant, Canada West. They had seven children: Ann Elizabeth, David Orlando, Christopher, Anna Elma, Benjamin W., Francis, and Maria Elma. The 1851 Canada census shows Asa, his wife Eunice, and his children Joseph, Orlando, Ann, Christopher, Benjamin W., Francis, and Maria are farming in Charlotteville, Canada West.[1]
Asa and Eunice had both died shortly after the 1851 census was enumerated and their younger children were taken in by relatives.
Note: There is an Asahel Fairchild in the 1861 Census living in Townsend, Canada West with his children and wife Catherine but he is the son of Daniel and Catherine (Price) Fairchild.
