Frances Caroline Blundell Faithfull was born on 26th October 1872 at 36 Upper Manor Road, Chelsea, Middlesex to Andrew Faithfull and his wife Jane Rule. She was baptised on 27 Novenber 1872 at West Brompton, Kennsington, Middlesex.
I have not yet found Frances Caroline on the 1881 and 1891 Census, but I know that she was living in the Chelsea area.
On Thursday, 16th April 1896, Caroline appears being admitted into the Chelsea Workhouse, Britten Street, Chelsea. . She was 18 years old. Name and address of closest relation. Aunt Mrs Faithfull of 41 Riley Street, Chelsea. 2 weeks later she was released from the workhouse, Caroline Faithfull age 24 and Emily Faithfull, 2 weeks. her daughter, they were released into Caroline Faithfull`s mothers hands
I Know from the Divorce papers of John Smales Vickers that, 41 Riley Street was 1 of the addresses that Alice sited, in her request for a Divorce. Caroline or Carrie as she was known was the Lady that John was accused of having an affair with. Due to the fact that Carrie had a Daughter in 1896, would be very strong proof that he was having an affair.
Frances Caroline Brindle Faithfull, had her first child by John Smales Vickers in 1896, Emily Jane Faithfull was born on 16th April 1896 at Chelsea Workhouse, although John is not recorded on the birth certificate we know from other documents that he was the father of Emily.
Caroline had Alfred John Vickers in 1898. From Alfred`s bith certificate, it would appear that John and Frances are married, however I have never found a marriage certificate for them.
On the 1901 census John states that he is the head of the family aged 40 a whitesmith born in Beverley. He is living with his wife, Caroline aged 27 born in Chelsea, and 2 children, Emily aged 4 born Chelsea and John aged 2 born in Fulham,.
My Grandad came along in 1908. Harry George Vickers, born on 19th August 1908 at Kempson Road, Fulham, London.
In 1911 John Smales Vickers appear on the England census at 22 Belsize Avenue, Ealing, London. He states that he is the head of the family, married for 17 years, That he and his wife had had 3 children, all still living. That he was a Hot Water Fitter, working for a builders company. His wife Caroline was 39 born in Chelsea. There children were Emily Vickers aged 15 a Shop Assistant at Boots Chemist born Chelsea, John Vickers 12 at school born Fulham and Grandad, George aged 2 born in Fulham.
On 26th December 1915 John`s daughter, Emily marries Frederick William Marshall a Canadian Solder. John and his family are still living in Elling, London at the time. I have a lovely photo taken at the wedding, with my Grandad as a little boy, sitting infront of his sister..
