Christian Magnus was born in 1782. He was cand. jur., cancellist, procuratør in 1802. 1807: høyestrettsadvokat in København and captain in the student troop (studentcorpset) in the defense of København against the attack of the british marine. He became sorenskriver in Follo, Akershus and bought the farm Vollebekk in 1808, where he lived until the autumn of 1814. The farm was taken down in the 1850´s to give place to Den høiere Landbruksskole i Ås, later Norges landbrukhøgskole (NLH), present Norges miljø- og biovitenskapelige universitet (NMBU, Norwegian University of Life Sciences). A monument (in local: "Falsenstøtta") was erected there in memory of Falsen and his achievements. Christian married Elisabeth in 1811, was then sorenskriver. [1] Christian published, together with Johan Gunder Adler, the first draft for the constitution of Norway in Feb 1814. This draft was inspired by the constitution of France from 1791 and the US declaration of independence from 1776. This laid the ground for the work of the constitution assembly (Riksforsamlingen) on Eidsvoll in 1814. The final constitution was presented on 17 May. Christian Magnus Falsen has been given the title "Grundlovens fader" (the father of the Constitution) and 17 of May became the national holiday. 1814: amtmann in Nordre Bergenshus amt. 1822: generalprokurør. 1825: stiftsamtmann in Bergen. 1827: høyesterettsjustitiarius, a position he held until the summer of 1828 when he had a stroke that forced him to leave office. Christian Magnus passed away in 1830. [2]
