Elizabeth "Betsey" Fancher was born on 21 Jan 1794. She was the daughter of Andrew Fancher and Lydia Stevens.
Betsey Fancher married Ebenezer Leonard Boynton about 1815 in Catskill, Greene, New York. They had several children, including:
Underhill Boynton
Albert Boynton
Charles Oscar Boynton
Helena Ann (Boynton) White
Francis Barbara (Boynton) Baughman
Edgar Boynton
Egbert Boynton
Harriet Boynton
Henriett Boynton.
In 1821, Betsey and Ebenezer moved to Troy, Rensselaer, New York where Ebenezer was appointed Inspector of Provisions by the state legislature.
This was a position that Ebenezer would maintain for several years.[1]
In 1836, Betsey and Ebenezer moved to Joshua Township, Fulton, Illinois. Here, they lived out the remainder of their days on a 168-acre farmstead.[1].
Elizabeth passed away on 26 Feb 1876 in Fulton County, Illinois (most likely at her homestead in Joshua Township. She was buried at Fiatt Cemetery in Fiatt, Fulton, Illinois.[2]
Census Enumerations
1850 Joshua Township, Fulton, Illinois Betsey (age 55) and Ebenezer (age 54) resided on their farmstead in Joshua Township. Their sons, Egbert and Edgar (age 19) still lived at home with them, as well as a child named Catherine Henry (age 12).[3]
1860 Joshua Township, Fulton, Illinois Betsey (age 67) and Ebenezer (age 64) were enumerated with the surname "Boyington" in this census. Their son, Egbert, and his family lived with them at this time on their farmstead in Joshua.[4]
1870 Joshua Township, Fulton, Illinois Betsey (age 76) and Ebenezer (age 73) continued to live on their farmstead in Joshua. Their son, Egbert, and his family also continued to reside on their farmstead.[5]
Research Notes
As noted by William Hoyt Fancher, members of the Boynton family were at times referenced with the surname "Boyington".[6] With the exception of the 1860 census, Ebenezer's surname was spelled "Boynton".
Traditionally, Betsey's date of birth has been given as 21 Jan 1794. Betsey's headstone indicates that she was 83 years, 1 month and 6 days old when she passed away; this would mean that she was born on 20 Jan 1793. Census records are inconsistent. A family bible record would be convenient.
