In the 1860 US census, John a Fanning [Fannin] (37, born Alabama) was married to Sarah Fanning [Fannin] (31, born Tennessee). They were living in Gentry Missouri with their children Ann (7), Jane (5), Martha (3) and Sarah (1).[1]
In 1861, John A. Fannin enlisted at Green Co., Missouri in the 1st Missouri Cavalry Regiment, Co. D. His rank was Private. [2]
John, Sarah and their family continue living in Missouri in the 1870 census.[3]
In 1873, John's wife dies, but then marries Jane Yowell in 1874 in Fremont, IA.

The family remains in Sidney, Fremont, Iowa through 1880. His occupation is Merchant. [5]
and then John passes away in November 1880.[6]
Research Notes
According to the 1880 Census his second wife's name is Martha and her father James is living with them. Also he's listed as born in Georgia, but the parents birth locations are blank.
