James Fanning wed Hannah SMITH of Smithtown and had five sons & four daughters; i.e. Phineas, Thomas, Gilbert [this profile] & Edmund, James, Catherine, Bethia, Sally & Nancy.
Deed book C 33, 8 Dec 1739. James Fanning of Southold deeds to William Coleman of same, 550 acres less 15 acres for £700 land in the Precinct of Goshen called Denne Hill where William Mapes now lives. Since James Fanning was living in Southold it is likely Gilbert was born there.
