Biography
Jean was born in 1788 at Tinwald, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of John Faris and Jean Waugh.
She married William Mure on 2 December 1814 at Tongland, Kirkcudbrightshire[1][2]. They had at least six children (all recorded with the name spelt Mure).
In 1841 she was living with her husband William, her son William (10) and Mary G Neal (11) at Brockloch, Kirkcudbright[10]. In 1851 she was staying with her daughter Ann McCaw (31), her family (husband Robert (42) and children - Elizabeth (11), Jane (9), Matthew (6) and James (2 months) - and two dairymaids at Twynholm, as her husband was working away from home[11]. She was a housekeeper aged 62 born at "Tonwat, Nethdale" (probably meant to be Tinwald). In 1861 she aged 79 was living with her husband William (73) and her grand-daughter Jane Liddle (7) at High St, Kirkcudbright[12].
She died on 15 August 1867 at High Street, Kirkcudbright aged 90 (as reported by her daughter Agnes which seems an unlikely age compared with her own reported age in the Censuses)[13]. Her death was registered at Kirkcudbright[14].
