Alexander or Alaster to use his Gaelic name was third son to Donald Farquharson and his wife Janet Ogilvy at which time his father farmed the Castleton of Kindrochit at Braemar.
About 1600 Alaster married his first wife, Barbara Rattray, daughter to Dalrulzion, widow of Tom, by whom he had 3 sons. Donald, John and Alexander and a daughter.
Alexander Farquharson also known locally as Alaster Mc Donald McFheanlay married for his 2nd wife Isabell McArar by whom he had a daughter married to George Farquharson of Coldrach.
He married for his 3rd wife Grizil McKenzie daughter to Donald McKenzie of Craygour by whom he had a son William. [1]
Alaster and his first wife Barbara Rattray in 1611 were granted jointly a wadsett of Easter Allanaquoich in the parish of Kindrochit. [2]
That same year he was accused along with his uncles, brothers and cousins of taking part in 1610 in the murder of James Clerk in Auchrannie.[3]
