Caroline P. Farr was born in 1858 in Ipava, Illinois. She was the daughter of Samuel Farr and Susannah France. Most of her life was spent in Vermont Township, Fulton County, Illinois. She was very active in the Vermont Christian Church. Pierre Marshall states that she had a beautiful voice and sang at almost all the church functions. In May 1884, she married Lawrence E. Gardner. In the Vermont News of the Astoria Argus newspaper on 29 Sep. 1886 it said, "Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Gardner are visiting relatives in southern Kansas. Lawrence was a druggist by profession and had a very good business in Vermont Township. Carrie and Lawrence had one child, Hellen Fay Gardner. Carrie passed away in 1937 and is buried next to her husband in the Vermont Cemetery.
