Biography

Robert Matthew 'Bob' Farrrar, the second surviving son of Thomas Matthew & Margaret Clarice 'Clarrie' (Terrier) Farrar was born at Inverleigh, Victoria, on 7 Aug 1903.[1] Shortly after his birth his family moved to Bannockburn where his father had purchased the mail coach running daily between Bannockburn and Rokewood, while his mother operated a small store. He was 3 years old when his family moved from Bannockburn to Carrum Downs.

Bob and Lillian Kathleen Edwards were married by license at Lillian's parents house, Carrum Downs, on 24 October 1925. The witnesses were Lillian's older brother 'Les' Edwards & Bob's yonger 'Bert' Farrar (Best man).[2]

Late in life Bob became a (night) watchman employed at the Maize Products factory then located between Moreland Road and the Maribyrnong River, downstream from the Shepherd Bridge, Footscray. Every afternoon he would ride his bicycle 2.5 km to work and return in the morning. On one occasion he was struck by a car but, apart from some damage to his pride, was able to pick himself up & continue his journey [possibly offering some commentary re the driver's birth].

The last one or two years of his life brought the onset of dementia (cerebral atrophy), followed by a severe stroke. After hospitalisation at Western General Hospital, Footscray, he was placed in residential care in Yarraville where he subsequently contracted bronco pneumonia and died on 18 December 1980.[3] After cremation at the Altona Memorial Park, Altona, Victoria, Bob's ashes were scattered by his grandsons in the You Yangs Regional Park, near Geelong, a favourite place he had visited many times.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Robert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Robert:
