Biography

Judith was a daughter of John and Mary Farrington, born on 4 April 1684 in Dedham (Norfolk County), Massachusetts.[1]

She was married to Abiel Lyon in Roxbury on 24 November 1703. Apparently Abiel had removed to Woodstock, Connecticut, by the time of the marriage, as Roxbury vital records show that Abiel Lyon "of Woodstock" married Judith Farrenton in Roxbury.[2][3] The couple's oldest children were born in Woodstock.

Children

Children of Abiel Lyon and his first wife Judith (FerrIngton) Lyon were:[4]

  1. Experience, born in Woodstock, Connecticut, on October 11 1704; married Ebenezer Goodell on Oct 21 1728; she died at Canterbury, Connecticut, on January 3, 1758
  2. Abiel, born in Woodstock on December 6 1706; died in Pomfret, Connecticut, on March 30, 1724
  3. Jonathan, born in Woodstock on September 28, 1709; died in Pomfret on August 25, 1785.
  4. Pelatiah, born in Pomfret on September 20 1711; died in Pomfret on February 18, 1746[5]
  5. Judlth, born in Pomfret on September 5, 1713;[6] she is named in Abiel Lyon's will as his daughter Judith Ferrington .
  6. Obadiah (or Obediah), born in Pomfret on October 16, 1715[7]
  7. Mary, born in Pomfret on October 8, 1717;[8] married Benjamin Ingalls

I removed the "uncertain" indicator on the marriage. It meant that the place of marriage was uncertain. The marriage is recorded in vital records of Roxbury, where Abiel (but not Judith) is identified as "of Woodstock."

I wonder what about the marriage of Judith and Abiel that warrants the "uncertain" tag? The date? The town? That they were married at all?
