Hi Stephanie,

Our primary vision is to build a collaborative tree with just one profile per person, so please make sure to look for duplicates on WikiTree before adding a profile. Having dates and locations attached to every person assists in our mission as well.

I see you are working on merges. Please review our Matching and Merging FAQ to understand your responsibilities in doing merges.

During a merge, the text from the merged-away profile is appended to the end of the text of the merged-into profile. After a merge, you will need to clean up the text by removing duplicate information and consolidating what is left leaving the profile with a single Biography section and a single Sources section.

The Help page on Biographies has a lot of great information on what to include and what to omit in a Biography.

Please also review all other family members for potential duplicates and review any conflicts in parents.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Hi Stephanie,

Click here for Help: Reducing the Size of Your Watchlist.

Click here for Help: About the Watch List.

Watchlist Size We recommend that no Watchlist contain more than 5,000 profiles. Beyond this, WikiTree systems may start to slow down for you. If your Watchlist gets too large, some WikiTree tools won't work for you at all. Most unfortunately, and ironically, this includes the tools that make it easy to reduce the size of your Watchlist.

We recommend smaller Watchlists if you want to be less active on WikiTree. The smaller your Watchlist, the less collaboration you will need to be involved in. Of course, not all profiles require the same level of collaboration. If you only have modern, private family members on your Watchlist you will only need to work with close family members.

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for adding profiles to WikiTree. There are reasons behind the eighth point in our Honor Code: "We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information." A source provides a way to find out more about the person. Showing sources reduces confusion and duplicates.

Here is what our Sources help page says. It has lots of ideas:

The Sources Style Guide shows how to enter sources in the biography.

A free and very good website to find sources for your family/ancestors is Family Search.

I also notice that you have "Find A Grave" as only source of many of your profiles. This is a derivative source, see Help:Uncertain. We suggest you consider adding better sources to the profiles you already have before creating new ones. Thank you ! Isabelle

Hi Stephanie,

Your Watchlist has 38179 profiles. This is very large. Our systems are designed to handle 5,000. You do not have to keep so many on your Watchlist. Despite the terminology, there is no shame in "orphaning" Open profiles. :-) . Please visit Help:Reducing the size of your watchlist and follow the advice there. Since your watchlist is larger that 10000, Bulk Trusted List changes tool may not work for you. If so, please contact for help reducing your Watchlist. Thanks !! Isabelle
