In the Coffee Co. Ala. 1850 census, Middleton Heidelberg is found listed as a "laborer" in the household of his half-brother Hardy Faulkner, age 33. Middleton is said to be 23. His last name is spelled "Rydleburg" which is likely a census taker's mistake. Since Middleton's father Mac Heidelburgh did not marry his mother Dicie/ Louisa (McCormick) Faulkner until after her first husband (Mr. Faulkner) died in 1818, it is likely that he was born between 1823 and 1827. Louisa and Mac's first child was Mary Hidleburgh, said to be 30 in the 1850 Randolph Co. census, although most researchers give her a birthdate of 1821. Also living in Mac Heidelberg's household in the 1850 Randolph county census is Matilda Raley, age 23, who married Middleton Heidelberg some years later. Most researchers feel that the 3 young Raley children (Eliza age 4, Jane age 1, and Ann age 4 months) living in Mac's household in 1850 were his granddaughters, children of Matilda Raley and Middleton. Mary Heidelberg goes by the name Mary Tyner in the 1866 Alabama state census, Covington County, and is head of household of the next family after her half-brother Hardy Faulkner. She has 2 females over age 20 in her house (herself and her widowed mother Louisa Heidelberg) and one male between age 10 and 20 (her only child William Henry Tyner (1848-1925)who would have been 18 at that time). Mary and Wm. Henry Tyner have not yet been found in any 1860 census. In the 1850 census mentioned above, Wm. Henry is listed as Henry Tiner (some read the cursive as Finen, read it for yourself) age 3 in the home of his grandfather, Mac Heidelberg. The question of who his father was and how he got the name Tyner was the theme of Mayme Tyner's second book, "Tyner, Faulkner, Caylor and other connections" published in 1981. She never found a plausible Tyner. DNA research would later show that Wm. Henry's father was his mother's brother-in-law, Benjamin Raley (1818-1895), the brother of Matilda Raley. In the 1850 census of Henry Co. Alabama, southern district, Ben age 29 is living with his wife Martha age 25 and their 4 children Elizabeth age 10, Sarah age 6, Jency age 3 and Dicy age 1. Oral family history from William Henry Tyner, told to his daughter-in-law Effie Campbell Tyner(1885-1987) (my grandmother) who told me, was that his true father was "a neighbor named Raley". This was ignored by my aunt Mayme Tyner in her book as she felt it was too scandalous. In the 1870 Covington county Alabama census, (see images) We find Hardy Faulkner age 53 living with his wife Abigail age 49 and their children, next door to Hardy's half-sister Mary (Heidelberg) Tyner who is living with Hardy's half-nephew William Henry Tyner age 22, his wife Viannah (Caylor) Tyner age 18, and Dicie (McCormick) Heidelberg, age 83, who was the mother of Mary Tyner and Hardy Faulkner, who were half-siblings.
Faulkner-1841 was created by Mack Tyner through the import of Tyner Family Tree GEDCOM.ged on Dec 31, 2015.
