Hampden L4064 took off from Waddington at 0815 hours to attack shipping reported in Kristiansand Harbour. The aircraft ditched at 1420 hours, 120 miles east of Newcastle. It is believed that the crew managed to get into their dinghy, but despite an extensive search no trace was found. Sergeant Nevinson’s remains were later recovered and are buried in the Kiel War Cemetery; the remainder have not been found.
