Biography
Caroline Estelle was born in Northborough, Massachusetts, in 1858, the daughter of Henry and Eliza (Lincoln) Fay.[1] She grew up in Northborough, and had one younger brother, Herbert, 11 years her junior.[2]
She attended the Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.[3] After graduation, she started her teaching career in Boylston, Massachusetts.[4] She started teaching in Somerville, Massachusetts, in 1889, first at the Lincoln School and later at the Bingham. She resigned in 1896, after 7 years of service, in order to marry.[5]
She married Harry F. Hathaway, principal of the Bingham School, in 1896.[6] The couple resided in Somerville.
Caroline died in 1930. She is buried with her husband at the Howard Street Cemetery in Northborough, Massachusetts.[7]
