"United States Census, 1870," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MHCJ-LHV : accessed 11 Apr 2013), Edwin W Fay, Michigan, United States; citing p. 7, family 49, NARA microfilm publication M593, FHL microfilm 552202.

I wish I could find this family in the 1880 census, but the Bridgehampton, Sanilac County, Michigan Census of 1880 is missing, possibly due to burning in a fire... several terrible forest fires ravaged this area in the 1800s and I think some relatives could have been killed in these fires, and their bodies could have been so badly burned that they were not recognizable, thus no customary civil burial with a headstone. Years later I located an 1880 census record on the Carsonville library website and copied it as seen in image 4 on this page... this is from an index copy of the 1880 census of Bridgehampton, MI.

1870 US census agricultural schedule via Ancestry:

please note that Ancestry sometimes gives only the page of the record with the person's name on it, leaving out the second page of the agricultural info.

Edwin W. Fay in Bridgehampton, Sanilac, MI:

20 acres of improved land, 60 acres woodlands, total value $1200, Tools valued at $100. He had 2 horses, 3 milk cows, 3 other cattle, 17 sheep, 4 swine, livestock valued at $300. In 1969, they harvested 20 bushels of oats.... (end of record seen on Ancestry.)

next page (not seen on Ancestry?) they harvested 100 bushels of beans or peas, made 300 pounds of butter, harvested 8 tons of hay, made $40 worth of home manufactures, slaughtered $40 worth of animals, produced $330 worth of total farm products.

The 1880 US Census is totally missing for Bridgehampton.

The 1860 does not list their farm production as they were just living at survival mode and had just been there a few years in a wilderness.

The Israel Fays and Edmund Fays were in the 1860 US Census of Sanilac County, Michigan with no real reports of their farms, which probably means they were basically just getting organized with their farming. Israel Fay had $400 of real estate and $150 personal estate as a Farmer, Edmund Fay had 0/0 as a Laborer, just beginning his farm work at age 22 and as a newlywed.

In 1870, Israel Fay had $1200 in real estate, and $200 in personal estate. His son, Edwin W. Fay had $1200 in real estate and $500 personal estate as a well established farmer. In 1870, both families were living in Forester, Sanilac, Michigan.

I am also seeking descendants of Israel Fay from the state of Washington, USA. I once had some of their names, but have lost that info... too much moving around over the years gets things lost.

I found these Fays in the Seattle area via Ancestry in July 2014 and have added some of the info to my tree system...
