I'm a Canadian, descended from Englishmen & Scotsmen who were in turn descended from Viking invaders to Britain about a millennium ago. I'm married to a Danish Viking and we are living in Denmark, exploring both of our family trees.

Hello David,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

The England Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles that you manage or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hi David Wray and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing

Pam ~ WikiTree Greeter

PS Did you know that Tags become clickable links to others researching those names, or places, that you are interested in. They also control what is included in the family activity emails from WikiTree.

Cheers, Pam.

I'll try the how-to pages before troubling you again. I'd like to use and 'import from spreadsheet' function if there is one; doing one entry at a time is mind-blowingly tedious.

Kind regards, David

Hi David,

Pam's gone off duty and asked me to respond. As far as I know, there is no way to upload from a spreadsheet. If your data is in a genealogy program or website, there are ways to export a GEDCOM file that can be uploaded. You can use the GEDCOMpare process to confirm that profiles don't already exist for the people in your database, then use the data in your file to create the new profiles without having to type.

Please do let us know if you have any questions about how WikiTree works, even if they seem minor. My rule of thumb when I started was to search for an answer for five minutes, then reach out to my Greeters, and then resume searching. I might have found the answer before they got back to me but they sometimes offered a different way of doing the same thing which was easier. We are always here to help.

See you in the branches,

Debi ~ WikiTree Greeter
