John Fenney was born on 14 Dec 1830, and christened on 1 Jan 1831 at Tontine Street Wesleyan Chapel in St Helens, Lancashire. He was the son of James and Ellen Fenney. The family's address was recorded as Parr, and the father's occupation as engineer, and the mother's maiden name as Martindale.
John's father died in 1837, aged 44; he was buried on 7 Nov 1837 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. His address was recorded as Sutton.
By June 6th 1841, Ellen was living in Thatto Heath, Eccleston with her four children Ann, John, Jabez and James.
