Sir Geoffrey Fenton was a member of the aristocracy in England.



Sir Geoffrey Fenton is a son of Henry Fenton of Fenton, co. Notts. and Cicely Beaumont.[1] He was the brother of Edward Fenton the famous navigator and Catherine Fenton wife of Sir William Parsons.[2]


He married Alice Weston in June 1585.[3] She was the daughter of "Dr. Robert Weston, formerly lord chancellor of Ireland."[3]


Geoffrey Fenton and Alice Weston are the parents of:[4]

  1. Catherine Fenton d. 16 Feb 1629 (an ancestor of the Queen Mother)
  2. Sir William Fenton d. 1667


He held the office of Principal Secretary of State [Ireland].[1] He was invested as a Knight.

He was an English writer, Privy Councillor, and a friend of poet Edmund Spenser before becoming Principal Secretary of State in Ireland under Queen Elizabeth I.


He died c.1608 and was buried in the "Weston" tomb in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin.
