Nancy, I think you stated Thomas James was born in Scotland. Is that Ferguson-6671? That profile states he was born in Pennsylvania, not Scotland, and died in Indiana. Thomas Ferguson (abt.1750-1842) was born in Scotland. That profile is linked to Edith Foster as a spouse. There are several Thomas Ferguson born about the same time in Scotland
I agree there are many Thomas Ferguson in North Carolina. Quick search on Family search showed at least 4 in 1830 and 3 in 1840 census in North Carolina and others in South Carolina.
This family does look like some profiles have been conflated or have incorrect relationships.
The sibling has same dates and name of Thomas with same mother, but different fathers.
The birth date at the top of this profile matches some information in the biography but not all of it since some items, including the Find a Grave page has Nov 1766. Find a Grave page has both birthdates on different gravestones, so that could be the cause of the confusion.

My family's DNA results indicate that they ARE the same person, all six of us are connected to both 6671 and 8514, and Y-DNA connects us to them both as well. I believe they should be merged and the other details researched. We are also all connected to James Ferguson (including Y-DNA) and Margaret Stot.
