Biography

James F Ferguson was the son of Nicholas P. Ferguson (1843-1912) and Letitia Kiester (1850-1930), born on 18 Mar 1877 and grew up in Jackson, De Kalb County, Indiana. James married Florence Grube (or Grubb) on 26 Nov 1899 in De Kalb County, Indiana.^[1][2]

James F Ferguson and Florence Grube had the following children:

• Arthur D Ferguson (1901-1964)
• Chalmer Ferguson was born on 27 Oct 1903 in Jackson, De Kalb County, Indiana. He stayed at home on the family farm his whole adult life. Chalmer died on 20 Nov 1989 at age 86 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
• Alice L Ferguson was born on 16 Oct 1908 in Jackson, De Kalb County, Indiana. She, too, remained on the farm her entire life. Alice died on 6 Nov 1990 at age 82 in Butler, De Kalb County, and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery with her brother, Chalmer.

James and Florence farmed in Keyser and Jackson Townships, where they raised their three children. They were together for more than 50 years. She died on 26 Feb 1953 at age 72 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn, De Kalb County, Indiana.^{[3][4][5][6][7][8]}

James died on 3 Mar 1964 at age 87 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery with Florence. His obituary appeared in The Garrett Clipper on 54 Mar 1964.^[9][10]

“JAMES F. FERGUSON OF AUBURN DIES AT 86
“Funeral services for James F. Ferguson, 86, of Rt. 2, Auburn, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gerig funeral home in Auburn. The Rev. Robert Jackson, pastor of the Huntertown Methodist church, will officiate at the services and burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, near Auburn. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Ferguson died at the DeKalb Memorial hospital in Auburn at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday from complications of advanced age. He had been in poor health for five years and was hospitalized one day. He was born March 18, 1877, in Jackson township, DeKalb county, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was the son of the late Nicholas and Lettia Kester Ferguson. In a ceremony performed at the Lutheran church parsonage in Auburn on Nov. 26, 1899, he and Florence Grubb were united in marriage. Mrs. Ferguson died Feb. 26, 1953. Surviving are a son, Chalmer Ferguson, at home; a daughter, Miss Alice Ferguson, also at home; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Mitchener of 1624 South Wayne street, Auburn.”
