Biography

Margaret J Ferguson was the daughter of Nicholas P. Ferguson (1843-1912) and Letitia Kiester (1850-1930), born on 25 July 1883 and raised in Jackson, De Kalb County, Indiana.[1][2]

Maggie married Jacob Stebing on 1 Sep 1904 in De Kalb County, Indiana. Jacob was born on 24 July 1879 in Gensungen, Hesse, Germany, to George Stebing (1855–1905) and Anna Gertrud Schild (1858–c. 1885), and arrived in America in 1883, just before the birth of his younger brother, Henry. After his mother died, his father remarried Augusta (Sodtman) Peters (1861–1947), and Jacob grew up in their home in Union City, De Kalb County, Indiana.[3][4][5]

Jacob was a sheet metal worker and he and Maggie raised their family in Union City, where they lived for more than 40 years.[6][7][8][9][10]

Jacob Stebing and Margaret J Ferguson had the following children:

  • Robert Paul Stebing Sr (1913-1979)
  • Everett Romain Stebing (1918-2004)
  • June Irene Stebing was born on 20 June 1919 in Union City, De Kalb County, Indiana. She died on 1 May 1920 at 10 months of age and was buried in Roselawn Cemetery in Auburn, De Kalb County.
  • Vernon Eugene Stebing (1924-2003)
Margaret died in 1947 at age 63 and was buried in Roselawn Cemetery in Auburn, De Kalb County, Indiana. Her obituary appeared in The Garrett Clipper on 22 Sep 1947. Jacob died in 1956 at age 77 and was buried in Roselawn Cemetery with Maggie.[11][12][13]
“Mrs. Jacob Stebing of Auburn Dies at 64
“Mrs. Maggie Stebing, 64, of 1705 South Wayne street, Auburn, died at 7 p.m. Friday from diabetes at the Williams Convalescent home at Butler. She was the wife of Jacob Stebing. She had entered the convalescent home last Tuesday. Mrs. Stebing had been in poor health for several years. She was a patient at the Sacred Heart hospital at Garrett for three weeks early in the summer. Since last January, she has been bedfast. A lifelong resident of DeKalb county, she was born five miles south of Auburn. She was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran church of Auburn. Surviving, besides the husband, are four sons, George of 205 West Ninth street, Auburn; Robert of 1704 South Sprott street, Auburn; Everett of South Wayne street, Auburn, and Eugene of 1102 South Main street, Auburn; one brother, James Ferguson of south of Auburn' two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Squires of Willard, O., and Mrs. Dorothy Mitchener of 1624 Wayne street, Auburn, and three grandchildren. The body was taken to the Dilgard & Cline funeral home in Auburn, where it will remain until services are conducted at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Allen K. Trout, pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran church, will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn cemetery.”
