Notes
Note N819Name shown as "Rebeccy" on 1850 census, "M.B. Lum" on 1860 census, and "Rebecca Lum" on 1870 census.
1860 U.S. Federal Census - Jefferson County - Mississippi
Andrew Lum 43 M Planter Mississippi
M.B. Lum 44 F Louisiana
Celeste A. Lum 4 F "
Eli Simmons 23 M Blacksmith "
Sarah E. Simmons 19 F "
Sam'l Simmons 15 M "
Rebecca Simmons 13 F "
Eda Simmons 11 F "
Martha E. McElhaney 28 F "
This Census shows Martha E.(Simmons) McElhaney(McLehaney) living in the household of Andrew Lum who married Rebecca (Ferguson) Simmons after her husband died prior to 1860. Martha was married to William M. McLehaney who at this time was in the Confederate Army at war with the North.(Note that Martha J. McLehaney is also shown living in the household of her husband, Willam M. McLehaney in Simpson County - these Marthas are the same age, 28, but Martha E. name is spelled differently and also shown as born in Louisiana. They may be the same but not absolutely sure)
The Hazlehurst, Copiah Co., Miss. marriage record shows Mrs Rebecca Simmons married to A R Lum on November 23, 1854. Rebecca would be 44 in this census which is correct so the M B Lum shown must be
Rebecca.
