Catherine was born in 1778, the daughter of Archibald Ferguson and his wife Ann. OPR Kilinian and Kilmore 544/1 shows baptism of Cathrine (sic) took place on 29 November 1778.

Catherine Ferguson and Duncan McCallum were married on the Isle of Mull on 7 February 1808.

They and their family (under the name McKallum) arrived in Australia on "The British King" on 2 February 1839. Two more daughters arrived on "Sir John Falstaff" on 13 April 1841.
